Jiangsu Governor Li Xueyong inspected Lishui Plant Sciences Station (LPSS) of JAAS on February 18, 2012. Yang Weize, standing member of CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee and secretary of CPC Nanjing Municipal Committee, Ji Jianye, mayor of Nanjing City and Mao Weiming, secretary-general of Jiangsu Provincial Government joined the inspection. JAAS President Yan Shaohua, VP Yu Wengui and other chiefs accompanied the visit.
Governor Li visited the High Value Horticulture Crops Seedling Industry Demo Station and inquired in detail about the operation of the Demo Station, especially its operation costs, profits and other investment returns. Governor Li was excited to hear that JAAS has been providing high quality seedlings to specialized cooperatives with only 1/4 the price of introduced seedlings. He encouraged the scientists to center round market demands and to breed more high quality varieties. JAAS President Yan Shaohua pointed out that more than 200 researchers of 34 research teams are now conducting experiments in LPSS and have undertaken a lot of provincial and ministerial S&T projects with fruitful research results. Governor Li stressed that JAAS takes the lead in agricultural researches among provincial academies and LPSS not only promotes agriculture innovation, but also functions as a demo. Li proposed JAAS thoroughly implement 2012 No. 1 document of the central government, increasingly improve land output, productivity and resource utilization, accelerate agriculture modernization and thus make more contribution to agricultural produce supply and farmer income increase.
