Delegates of the 7th International Strawberry Symposium visited JAAS

 
28 delegates of the 7th International Strawberry from 11 countries visited the Institute of Horticulture on February, 24, 2012. Prof. Zhao Mizhen accompanied the visit. Director Chen Heming of Lishui Plant Sciences Station (LPSS) led the delegates to the fruit tree park, oil crops fields and the High Value Horticulture Crops Seedling Industry Demo Station. The delegates spoke highly of LPSS management, facility and operation.
 

 
During the visit to National Strawberry Germplasm Nursery (NSGN) and LPSS strawberry testing fields, Prof. Zhao Mizhen introduced to the delegates the NSGN history, development and achievements and she also briefed on JAAS researches on strawberry germplasm collection& evaluation, genetic marker application, breeding program and cultivation management. Prof. Edward Żurawicz, director of Research Institute of Pomology & Floriculture (RIPF) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Poland, and Prof. Richard Harnden, technical manager of the Berry Company (UK) appreciated JAAS achievements in strawberry germplasm collection and breeding effects. The delegates and JAAS researchers held heated discussions on research of interest to strawberry studies and reached some agreements for cooperation.
 

 
During the symposium, the strawberry varieties Ningfeng and Ningyu developed by JAAS were on display as the major innovated varieties, and posters on JAAS strawberry researches were also exhibited.
