The seminar on cooperation of industry, education and academy between the Institute of Vegetable Crops (IVC) and Bixi New District of Changshu (BNDC) was held at JAAS on March 5, 2012. JAAS Vice President Zheng Jianchu, Deputy Mayor Wang Qifeng of Changshu and more than 30 representatives attended the signing ceremony of the cooperation agreement, which was signed by IVC Director Yang Xingping and BNDC Director Sun Xueliang.
During the seminar, Deputy Director Xin Hongxia of the General Office introduced JAAS history and development to the delegation. Deputy Mayor Wang Qifeng briefed the development of industry and agriculture in Changshu and expressed his wishes to carry out cooperation with IVC. JAAS Vice President Zheng Jiangchu reviewed the 20 years of cooperation between JAAS and Changshu and extended his willingness to promote the cooperation and technical extension.
Changshu is one of key demo cities of efficient facility agriculture in Jiangsu Province. JAAS and Changshu have been in close cooperative and friendly relationship since 1990s, especially in the establishment of national agriculture demo parks. As a major industrial and agricultural demo area in Changshu, BNDC has made significant progresses in organic vegetable production, cultivation and processing of edible fungi and technical transfer. In 2011, Prof. Fan Pingshen of IVC was appointed by JAAS to work as deputy director of BNDC, mainly responsible for technical extension and cooperation.
Deputy Director Chen Lan of Changshu Science and Technology Department, BNDC administration staff and Deputy Director Shao Mingcan of JAAS Technical Services Division attended the signing ceremony. The delegation had a guided tour to Lishui Plant Sciences Station and Modern Agriculture Science and Technology Demo Park.
