Seminar on recent progresses of efficient cultivation in coastal saline areas

 
Seminar on recent progresses of efficient cultivation in coastal saline areas was held in the Institute of Industrial Crops at JAAS on January 3, 2012. More than 20 representatives including, JAAS Vice President Chang Youhong, Director Huang Jun of Research Management Division, Deputy Director Ji Congliang of the Cultivation Station of Jiangsu Agriculture Commission, attended the seminar. The seminar was chaired by Prof. Qi Cunkou, director of the Institute of Industrial Crops.

The meeting reviewed the research progress of efficient cultivation in coastal saline areas in 2011. Prof. Zhang Peitong, PI of the project, made an overall work report and representatives from the Institute of Industrial Crops, Yancheng Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Nantong Institute of Agricultural Sciences made separate reports on sub-projects. The project has made significant progress since 2011, including the completion of the research in simple and large-scale cotton precision production with plastic film in coastal saline areas; the development of new sweet sorghum varieties, salt-tolerant cultivation technology system and final product design and extension; the introduction and breeding of salt-tolerant industrial crops.
 
JAAS Vice President Chang Youhong claimed that the project was an effective implementation of national development strategy in Jiangsu coastal area exploitation. He also called for an innovative workforce and research alliance to make breakthroughs in saline agriculture key technologies. Director Huang Jun and other directors made comments and suggestions on the project.
