Institute of food safety and nutrition is engaged in technological innovation and provides technological services based on the quality and safety of agricultural products and nutritional quality, mainly focusing on developing pollutant detection technology, conducting pollutant monitoring and risk assessment, clarifying pollution characteristics, illustrating pollution rules, studying pollutant control technologies, and developing pollutant prevention and control products for typical pollutants (biotoxins, genetically modified ingredients, pesticides and veterinary drugs residues, food-borne microorganisms and zoonotic pathogens, heavy metals, plant regulators, plasticizers, etc.); conducting nutritional quality evaluation and functional components identification, studying the quality formation and regulation mechanism, and developing quality maintenance technology for regional characteristic agricultural products (geographical indication products); serving national and local governments in agricultural product quality and safety supervision, driving the transformation and application of achievements and technologies.

The Institute hosts a number of technical service platforms, such as Jiangsu Key Laboratory for Food Quality and Safety-State Key Laboratory Cultivation Base of Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), Key Laboratory for Control Technology and Standard for Agro-product Safety and Quality of Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MOA), Key Laboratory for Agro-product Safety Risk Evaluation (Nanjing) of MOA, Supervision, Inspection and Testing Center for Processed Agricultural Products (Nanjing) of MOA, National Quality Control Technology Center for Famous, Special, Excellent, and New Agricultural Products (CAQS-GAP), National Agricultural Product Quality and Safety Science Popularization Demonstration Base, National Agricultural Inspection Institution Training Base, National Agricultural Products GAP Management and Control Technical Service Base, Jiangsu Public Technical Service Center for Genetically Modified Products Safety Evaluation, etc.

Currently, the Institute has 85 full-time employees: 19 professors, accounting for 22%; 40 associate professors, accounting for 47%; 1 “National Female Model of Achievements”, 9 provincial “333” talents; 3 experts with outstanding contributions in the province; 1 provincial top ten science and technology star; 2 provincial outstanding young talents; 4 provincial support talents.
